Person Of Interest: Kit Bettison (Stylist)

Freelance stylist and vintage aficionado Kit Bettison is the uniquely creative mind behind online vintage boutique Alida Buffalo. With a distinctive style routed firmly in Kit’s love for the 70’s and 90’s eras, Alida Buffalo is renowned for sourcing one-off vintage pieces of the highest quality from across the globe.

Kit has also teamed up with her mum, Margaret Scholley, to create an eclectic interiors and events styling business,  Alida & Miller, that bring together an elegant and sophisticated blend of modern, antique and vintage styling.

We were lucky enough for Kit to take 5 minutes out from her busy schedule as business owner and mother of 2, to get to know a little more about the wonderful human behind such an individual style.

Where are you based and what do you do?

I'm based in the Byron bay hinterland. Firstly, I am a mother of two boys; I also own an online vintage store, Alida Buffalo, and if I find time I am a freelance stylist. I also have an interior styling company with my mum; Alida & Miller.

How would you describe your personal style?

Easy… Eclectic, comfy and a little bit kitsch (in both how I dress and my interior style, I guess).

What is your most treasured wardrobe item?

A magical sparkly silver pimp coat I picked up in LA from a fancy dress store, or my wedding shoes - silver glitter Saint Laurent ankle boots (can you tell I like silver glitter?).

What would be your top style tips as we come in to winter?

Wear your favourite comfy boyfriend pants, pair it with your favourite worn in band tee and adidas sneakers but then go totally over the top with a statement coat. Total comfort but you will also feel fab all day long.

From where do you draw inspiration?

The 70's and 90's era’s to be exact.

What advice would you give your 18 year old self?

Stop drinking goon. It's not a good look.

Where would you go in a time machine?

I know it sounds cliché but Woodstock to see Janice and Jimi play.

If you were stranded on a desert island, which 4 people would you choose to be stranded there with you?

Abbie and Ilana from Broad City, Chloe Sevigny and Dame Edna.

Favourite 90s tune?

Well it's not from the 90's but more early 00's – ‘Hot in Herre’ by Nelly.

What is your go to place to take an out of town guest?

St. Elmo - for the best margarita ever!

What is your favourite scent from the Premium Ceramics range by The Candle Library?

By far it's "Nature Trail" - it's also my favourite colour and sits so beautiful on my bedside table. It's a decorative piece for me, but the candle that I am always burning at my desk is, “Leatherbound Classic” as I love the more masculine scents. I can't get enough of the scent. It makes my nostrils very happy.
